Curt Hoppe spent a decade creating 25 of these larger-than-life photorealistic paintings in homage to his friends and people he admired, and the artistic life in general. Having moved to NYC from Minneapolis in the ‘70s, he soon melded into the downtown creators scene where he found his subjects: John and Charlie Ahearn, Penny Arcade, Patti Astor, Beth B, Jane Dickson, Coleen Fitzgibbon, Richard Hambleton, Lady Pink, Tom Otterness, Walter Robinson, Marcia Resnick, to name a few. The paintings, along with 120 of his similarly posed photographic portraits, were celebrated in a 2019 exhibit and reduxed in another Howl one-person show in 2023.
